Visual Arts Dept. Mission Statement
The art department at Sheldon High School teaches students the fundamental skills required to be successful in a range of art media, processes, and technology. Students will experiment in and learn to use 2D, 3D, and technological art making tools while building a solid foundation of art practices and behaviors. Students will learn, practice, and use the Harvard University 'Studio Habits of Mind' Art Framework (teaching students how to think creatively and problem solve). The art department will strive to help students improve their creative problem solving skills, to develop interpersonal communication skills, to grow the student's ability to reflect and respond to their environment, to utilize relevant technologies in appropriate and in innovative ways, and to foster grit and independent thinking. Fundamental skills students will master include a deep understanding of art tool usage, fine arts technologies, as well as applications of the elements and principles of art.
