4. The Project Theme: Working with 'scapes'.
Basic Materials and Requirements:
--9x12 inch canvas pad panel
--careful planning as oil paints are extremely expensive
--careful use of oil paints as they will stain and not come off clothing or hands/skin
--proper cleaning of brushes with paint thinner/solvents
--BRUSHES MUST BE CLEANED WELL!
--use of either wet on wet techniques or traditional techniques (or a blend of both)
--use of appropriate texture
--texture: impasto or blended (or both where appropriate)
--brushes: use only stiff bristle brushes, DO NOT USE SOFT WATERCOLOR BRUSHES!
--STORAGE: you will need to have NEWSPAPER under your work at ALL TIMES! --let dry overnight on tables
Thematic Approach:
--your thematic approach should integrate a landscape/seascape/spacescape/etc. as a main subject or element in your work
--you may integrate other objects, characters, animals, birds, etc. (i.e. a boat on a beach next to the water and sunset...)
--your choices MUST be meaningful to you personally (you will need to justify your choices/topic/subjects)
Realistic or Abstraction:
--you may work with either a realistic or abstract approach in your work
--research abstract landscape paintings to familiarize yourself with approaches to working with color and form versus realistic forms
